Peiffer Memorial Arboretum – A Collage

Located in New Cumberland, PA., the 35-acre arboretum consists of a large variety of beautiful, trees. The Peiffer Arboretum and Nature Preserve Inc., an on-going project by David H. Peiffer, honoring his parents, Rosemarie and Dr. Howard R. Peiffer, began with the restoration of a 1770-era stone Spring House located near the center of the tract. The restored Spring House is fully functioning. The building located at the entry of the arboretum is a replica of the Caleb Pusey home located in Delaware County. Caleb Pusey was a personal friend and partner of William Penn. Just south of the arboretum home is the Crash Site Memorial for WWII aviatrix Evelyn Sharp. Evelyn was a ferry pilot commissioned by the Army during the Second World War. Evelyn’s P-38 fighter plane, an aircraft that she was to fly to Newark for debarking to the war in Europe, lost one engine and crashed on the arboretum site. Terrill McLean, architect had the honor of designing all three of these entities located at the Peiffer Arboretum.
